Know This Meme is a meme encyclopedia: a free reference that explains what internet memes and slang mean, where they came from, and how people actually use them today.

New memes and slang appear every week. Most explanations live on social platforms, scattered across comment threads and deleted posts. We collect them into stable, well-researched pages you can link to and trust.

What every entry covers

Each entry on the site follows the same structure:

• Quick answer — the meaning in one or two sentences, right at the top
• Origin — where and when it started, with a timeline of how it spread
• Examples — how the meme is used in practice
• Translation — the literal vs. intended reading, and how the joke survives (or doesn't) across languages
• FAQ — the questions people actually search for

How entries are made

Entries are researched from primary sources (original posts, archives, and reporting), drafted with modern tooling, and reviewed before publication — we do not publish an entry we would not stand behind. Entries are updated as memes evolve, and new ones are added continuously.

Every page is written to be readable without any background knowledge: if you found a meme somewhere and wondered "what does this mean?", that question is exactly what the page answers.
